A Cheat Sheet to Making Citi Rewards Card Right for You

Citi Rewards Visa Credit Card Review, Key Features and Privileges in Singapore

Most Singaporeans are fascinated with the idea of shopping – whether in-store shopping or online shopping. And did you know that more than 58% of these people purchase at least one item weekly?

In this regard, these shoppers need to be informed of a great credit card: Citi Rewards Card! Because it features a rewards system that’s ideal for shopaholics, they should check it out. And, they might want to get an application form.

Then again, they should know that sending in a Citi Rewards Card application is one step. Getting approved and getting issued are other steps. Using the credit card wisely is yet another – and it is one that they should be good at!

Here’s an overview:

  • Enjoy 10X Rewards* on all your online purchases (except travel-related transactions^)
  • 10X Rewards* on your shopping# spend locally and overseas
  • 1X Rewards Points on all other spend, no cap
  • No minimum spend required
  • NEW (April 2019): Earn miles/reward points (depending on card type) when you pay your tax, rent, condominium management fee, school fee or electricity bill with Citi PayAll on the Citi Mobile® App.

*10X Rewards is capped at 10,000 Points per statement month. After the cap is reached, continue to earn 1X Reward for every S$1 spent.

^Travel-related transactions are determined by Merchant Category Codes (MCC)

#Qualifying charges made at any department store, or retail store worldwide, or shopping website that sells clothes, shoes and bags as its main business activity, determined by Merchant Category Codes (MCC).

Here are some ways to use the Citi Rewards Card wisely.

Shopping for Fashionable Items = Use the Card

Clothes, bags, and shoes are three examples of fashionable items. If you shop for these items, grand reward points are offered as a Citi Rewards Card holder. Particularly, with every SGD $1 that you spend, 10x reward points are yours! This is valid when you shop at local department stores and international department stores – and when you shop online, too! If you prefer miles over reward points, you can also go with that option. Instead of 10 reward points, you can choose to receive 4 air miles.

[Editor’s Note: From 4 October 2018, there is a change in the Terms & Conditions of the Citi Rewards Card. Instead of 10x Rewards capped at a maximum of 120,000 Rewards points per card anniversary year, the cap will now be at 10,000 Rewards points per statement month on qualifying charges made at eligible merchants. After the cap is reached, continue to earn 1X Reward for every S$1 spent.]

Be Privileged with Complimentary Travel Insurance

When you book flights and hotels for your travels, Citi Rewards Card privileges you with complimentary travel insurance. Just remember to charge all of your spending to your card.

The complimentary travel insurance includes coverage for:

  • Medical and accidental coverage for dental expenses

  • Flight delay
  • Baggage delay
  • Trip interruption and cancellation

Fuel Purchase with the Card

Use Citi Rewards Card to pay for fuel at Shell and Esso stations. If you do, you will get 14% petrol savings. This means that if you’re supposed to pay S$200 for fuel, you’ll just end up paying S$172 — if you apply the 14% (or SGD $28) discount.

Keep a Close Watch over Participating Merchants

As a Citi Rewards Card holder, a tip is to be familiar with the participating merchants – these merchants have more than 500 outlets island-wide! If you enter one of the stores owned by a participating merchant, instant Citi Rebates will be given to you. And, these rebates can reach up to 10%!

Keep a Close Watch over VISA Deals

The Citi Rewards Card is a VISA-branded credit card. This means that as a card holder, exclusive VISA privileges are yours. A cool feature of this is that you’re entitled to the deals that come with VISA-branded cards. Once you have the card, you’re not required to do anything else except use it when you pay for items!

By simply using the credit card to pay for items at participating merchant stores, you’re the receiving end of special deals! You can receive gifts that are worth more than S$50. You can also get exclusive offers on movie tickets at Golden Village!

Alongside, you can use your Citi Rewards Card to make transactions via 2 latest payment services: VISA Checkout and VISA payWave. VISA Checkout is a digital service for financial transactions. VISA payWave is also another service for financial transactions — that allows contactless payments.

Conclusion: The Citi Rewards Card Advantage

The Citi Rewards Card advantage is in the points. Because you will be rewarded with every dollar that you charge on your card, you have a reason to rejoice.

If you’re a shopaholic, the Citi Rewards Card seems perfect for you! 10x reward points are up for grabs with every S$1! Because you spend a lot anyway, why not make the most out of every dollar that you spend?

A small downside of the credit card is the cap on the reward points. From 4 October 2018, the cap will be at 10,000 Rewards points per statement month on qualifying charges made at eligible merchants. This means to get the most out of this, you should cap a maximum spending of S$1,000/month.
