🏠 Fret not, staying in doesn’t mean it’s a bore! There are actually lots of things you can do to keep busy (apart from screen-time) and even have loads of fun! Most of all, it also means that you’ll get to spend some real quality time with your dear ones or get some good rest too. Spending more time at home is also certainly a luxury nowadays with the busy schedules that most of us keep. Take this pocket of time to put your work away on the weekends and slow down.

But of course, bookmark the latest food delivery promotions here! 🍲 Definitely an essential during this critical period.

For those with young children, there might be some cabin fever as the little ones get restless from being at home for a long stretch of time. It’s only natural for children to want to move around and be really active. Get them involved in some of these activities and you might be surprised that they can actually enjoy it too! 🧸

↪️ We’ve put together some ideas for your stay-home days, so let’s get started!

1. Try a new recipe

🧑‍🍳 Do you have a particular craving? Or perhaps wanting to try a new recipe? Here’s the time to try! However for this, you might have to plan ahead so that you can get the ingredients in time for you to cook. Start by browsing through recipes – some of my favourite cooking sites are Noob Cook ofor heartwarming local dishes and Salt & Lavender for delicious pasta and baked dishes. Best of all, both sites come with easy to follow and really yummy recipes.

Prefer to bake instead? One of my go-to sites is Delishar for straightforward recipes that doesn’t even require a stand mixer. Try the blueberry muffins that are not just easy to bake, but taste really good!

✨ TIP: Plan ahead and order the ingredients that you need. However, due to the high demand in Singapore, there might be limited time slots with up to at least a week’s wait at the moment so what you could do is to choose the dishes/bakes now and plan for the following week.

Amazon Prime Now is a good alternative as available delivery time slots are released gradually throughout the day. [Read more about Amazon Prime Now here]

✒️ You could also consider doing up a meal plan so that you’ll always have what you need ready in the fridge. What’s more, planning ahead is a good move as you can also order some of your other groceries at the same time too. However, it’s good to be a little flexible so that you don’t stress yourself out if you don’t stick 100% to the meal plan – it’s okay!

💖 Remember to get some fruits and vegetables for that much needed vitamin boost! Please be patient with the delivery staff too, as they are all working very hard and trying their best to meet the high demand around Singapore ⭐ Be a star and spread a little kindness that would certainly go a long way

2. Play card games

Snake & Ladders? Monopoly? Jenga? Uno? These classics never get old. However, do check out some modern board and card games like Sushi Go! and Exploding Kittens that are really popular!

But, one card game that we can all relate to is The Singaporean Dream Card Game. Produced by SGAG, this interactive and humourous card game lets you “pay, steal and sabo your way” to be the perfect Singaporean 😄

Select your personality such as Ah Beng, Aunty, NSF, PSLE Top Scorer, Influencer and more to “gain dreams” or “steal dreams”. The player with the most dreams win! So #supportlocal and enjoy hours of fun with this game! Don’t forget to check out the expansion pack as well. Get your set of The Singaporean Dream Card (The New Normal) Game here!

There’s also another SGAG card game, aptly named Off Track, “where you build MRT tracks to reach your destination, while disrupting others and throwing them off track”! Get your set of The Singaporean Dream Card Game AND Off Track here!

3. Try a new workout

A home workout can be as good as a gym workout. Best of all, you can sweat it out in the comfort of home in just 20 minutes! All you need is a yoga mat! There are plenty of YouTube videos like this one from MadFit to get you started.

🧘 Yoga is also a good choice for a stay-home workout. Not only does it give you a good stretch, it also helps to release the tension from the (tough) work week plus some breather away from all the news happening during the week.

🙏 It can help to re-centre, balance and calm you down, preparing you for the week ahead. Take your pick from the many yoga videos available on YouTube such as those from Yoga with Adriane to find the one you are most comfortable with. If you haven’t done any yoga in years or are a beginner, do go easy on yourself!

No yoga mat? This is one good and affordable option that is made out of non-toxic material and has a non-slip base. Otherwise, check out more choices here! From foldable mats to anti-slip natural rubber towel mat, there’s surely something you’ll like.

🧒 For the little ones, you can encourage them to try too. Yoga is also a great way for kids to relax and stretch out any tensions that they might have. Don’t think they can stay still long enough? Check out Cosmic Kids Yoga here and you’ll be surprised. There’s even a Frozen Yoga Adventure!

4. Books glorious books

5. Learn a new skill

⌛ Put the time you are spending at home to good use and pick up something new! Udemy offers over 100,000 professional online courses like Digital Marketing 101 or Python Bootcamp that you can sign up and learn anytime!

6. Declutter the house

This is probably a never-ending task but one that is ever so satisfying! Roll up your sleeves and get down to tackling those areas that might have been left out during spring-cleaning. Or is there a room makeover that you’ve been procrastinating? Perhaps some storage solutions might be handy for you.

Take a look at the practical storage solutions on Qoo10 here and be inspired to declutter your home. Since you might be spending more time at home over the next week or so, especially if you are working from home, a neat and tidy area would certainly make you feel happier and fresher! 😁

7. For the little ones

For young children, they might not understand why you are choosing to stay home more often especially during the weekends, but one thing for sure is they definitely enjoy spending the bonus quality time with you! <3 It might be frustrating to keep them entertain for long periods, but it is possible! Keep them occupied with sensory activities such as play dough, or freeze some of their smaller toys in ice-cubes for some waterplay. Not only does sensory activities engage them in free play, it also allows them to build up their fine motor skills.

Open-ended toys like DUPLO/Lego, wooden blocks or activities like painting help them ignite their imagination and creativity, especially for the older children. They might come up with interesting stories or simply just enjoy their creation after they are done.

Otherwise, simply turn on some music and dance together with them! There’s nothing like good music and the movements of a silly dance to chase away the grumpies (for both kids and adults)!

If you need craft supplies, Amazon.sg have a good selection of quality arts and crafts supplies here and even craft kits or mosaic kits that you can pick from. Maybe you can even get crafts done ahead for Teacher’s Day! For toys or board games recommendation, check them out here!

We hope that you’ve enjoyed some of these ideas when you spend more time at home. Remember even if you don’t have a clue or are too tired to do much, you really don’t have to do anything. The best weekend really is to wake up with nothing much on the agenda and take things slow. If you would like to step out for some fresh air, do avoid crowded places and consider going for a nature walk instead. Most importantly, take care and stay healthy!
