HISTORY BEHIND MICROSOFT

Microsoft was founded by two people: Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Gates and Allen both officially started Microsoft on 4 April 1975, with Bill Gates as their first CEO. The name itself was pitched by Allen. They moved the state of Washington in January 1979. The company released Windows 95 in 1995, one of the biggest stepping stone in modern world. It has MSN and Internet Explorer. In 1996, Microsoft and NBC created the 24/7 news channel, MSNBC.

In 2001, they came out with the Windows XP, an operating system still used this day sometimes. In 2007, they created the new Windows Vista, not as famous as th XP. Bill Gates retired as Chief Software Architect on 2008. He still stayed as an advisor on future projects. They came out with the Windows 7 in 2007, on the same day when they opened their first ever Microsoft retail store.

Following the release of Windows Phone, Microsoft undertook a gradual rebranding of its product range throughout 2011 and 2012, with the corporation's logos, products, services and websites adopting the principles and concepts of the Metro design language. In July 2012, Microsoft sold its 50% stake in MSNBC.com. The Kinect, a motion-sensing input device made by Microsoft and designed as a video game controller, first introduced in November 2010, was upgraded for the 2013 release of the Xbox One video game console. In line with the maturing PC business, in July 2013, Microsoft announced that it would reorganize the business into four new business divisions: Operating System, Apps, Cloud, and Devices.

On February 4, 2014, Steve Ballmer stepped down as CEO of Microsoft and was succeeded by Satya Nadella, who previously led Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise division. On the same day, John W. Thompson took on the role of chairman, in place of Bill Gates, who continued to participate as a technology advisor. On April 25, 2014, Microsoft acquired Nokia Devices and Services for $7.2 billion. On September 15, 2014, Microsoft acquired the video game development company Mojang, best known for Minecraft, for $2.5 billion.
 

MICROSOFT WINDOWS

XBOX
