Circles.Life is a home-grown telco that launched in 2016 with a daring campaign that shook up the industry by offering 20GB of data for $20 in a contract-free plan. As you'd probably know, it was groundbreaking back then because data would easily cost around $5 for just 1GB, and 2-year contracts were the way people bought their phones.

So you might be wondering if there are any hidden catches in the Circles.Life plan. While there aren't any deal breakers there are some things you need to know before you purchase one. Read on!

The Circles.Life base plan comes with 4GB (or 6GB if you're porting in your current number), no strings attached. The plan costs S$28 and includes 100 minutes of talk time and free incoming SMS. Outgoing SMSes cost $0.05, but that's not a big deal since most people don't SMS. Also, you get 10,000 minutes of free voice calls on Whatsapp, which means it won't eat into your data.

This is the only plan there is, which makes things quite simple, really. But you can plump up your Circles.Life plan with add-ons like 20GB for S$20 and free incoming calls for S$2.

In total, you can expect to pay S$48 per month for 24GB - 26GB; or S$50 with free incoming calls. So it's not as cheap as you might have thought, but it's a way better deal than paying S$30 to S$40 for say, 3 gigabytes.

Also, take note that registration costs S$38, but you can shave S$20 off if you use the promo code "NOW20FREE".

It costs nothing to port your number over. But make sure your existing contract (if any) has already ended. If it hasn't, you can set a reminder to notify you when your contract ends. Since the Circles.Life plan is contract-free, termination won't cost anything. But there's a minor catch - you can only terminate after two bills. Bills are charged every first of the month.

Ever since Circles.Life launched, the other telcos have stepped up their game.

Singtel has a SIM-only plan that charges S$46.75 for 25GB, not including talk time or SMSes, though there are free incoming calls. It's almost similar to Circles.Life but if additional 200 minutes of talk time was added, it would cost S$52.10 per month.

Also, Circles.Life seems to be the better deal here as there's a lot of promo codes, discount codes, and ways to earn bonus data.

NOW20FREE  / DATAPLUS / SAVENOW20 - Get a $20 discount off the $38 registration fee when you use one of these codes.

Wait... there's more. Check back on this page on Cardable for the latest Circles.Life promo codes and discount codes - remember to do it before you sign up for a Circles.Life plan!

A cool thing about Circles.Life is that you can continue to earn an unlimited amount of data after buying your plan (not that you'll really need it.) You automatically earn 500mb per month permanently for every 6 months you're with Circles.Life.

You also gain an extra 200mb per month for every friend that uses your referral code, which you can find in your CirclesCare app. The bonus applies as long as they stay with Circles.Life.

The leaderboards show some people having earned close to 100GB. Guess they can stream movies on Netflix all month with that much data!

There are also perks to referring your friends. You can win $500 dollars worth of Challenger vouchers if you've racked up 70GB through referrals, a free trip to Bangkok for two if you earned 50GB, and a free set of JBL speakers and headphones if you've earned 30GB. But perhaps a more realistic goal to set first is 5GB (50 friends referred) and earn $20 Capitavouchers.

Circles.Life runs on a 4G+ network and works as smoothly as the other operators. That's because it actually runs on a pre-existing network, the one that belongs to M1. The connection is fairly reliable most of the time, though it can get spotty if you head to certain locations. However, that's usually fixed by restarting the phone.

With the huge amount of data you have, you won't be afraid of downloading apps on the go, even if they are larger than 20MB. You certainly won't be searching for WiFi everywhere you go, and don't have to feel worried that you're going to exceed your data limit when you're watching Instastories.

With Circles.Life, you'll find that they are very generous with data bonuses. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for any promos they might have. I, for one, got an additional 3GB welcome bonus.

Customer service is prompt and it doesn't take too long to get connected to the live chat, unlike the other telcos which require you to wait on the line for up to twenty minutes, sometimes. Live chat with a 'blackbelt happiness expert' is available from 9am - 10pm every day.

Circles.Life offers the iPhone, Samsung, and Huawei through 2 year installment plans. As for the iPhone, there's the iPhone 8, iPhone 8+ and iPhone X.

If you want a Samsung, there's the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Samsung Galaxy Note8.

Huawei models that Circles.Life carries are Huawei Mate10 and Huawei Mate10 Pro.

All of these phones cost nothing upfront. That's right, you don't have to shell out a thousand dollars off the bat for the latest iPhone. Instead, you get to pay in installments of around $40 - $60 per month for two years.

Switching to the Circles.Life plan is easy and takes just a couple of moments. After you're done, the SIM card will be mailed over in a couple of days. Here's what you have to do:

1) Sign into Circles.Life: Fill out your details here

2) Register for the Circles.Life plan: Here's where you enter a promo code and give important info like your bank details and NRIC verification.

3) Download the CirclesCare appIt's where you settle everything related to your plan.

With that, you're done. Have fun using data without worrying!
