E-COMMERCE FOR BOOKS: KINOKUNIYA GOES ONLINE

Technology has been an integral part of our lives in the last decade or so, and will continue to be in the future. We’re always on our phones or surfing the Internet. For those who don’t have the time to pay a visit to Kinokuniya’s physical stores, you’ve lucked out. Kinokuniya Singapore now has an online bookstore where you can browse through titles and make a purchase. Known as the Kinokuniya Webstore Singapore, titles are available in English, Japanese and Chinese. The Kino webstore also offers lifestyle, hobby and crafts materials on top of reading materials.

The webstore’s layout is similar to a physical store: categories are prominent and ‘Best Sellers’—which you can filter by the daily, weekly or monthly—as well as the day’s features are the first things you’ll see; it’s also designed as such to make it easy for those who are looking for a particular title, publisher or author with the search bar stretched across at the top.

KEEPING UP WITH KINOKUNIYA: LATEST HIGHLIGHTS, PROMOTIONS, EVENTS AND MORE

While the webstore doesn’t currently offer a Sales category, its latest highlights, promotions and events can be found upon clicking the ‘What’s On’ banner located at the top right corner of the webstore, with many of its promotions exclusive to the webstore. Categorised by the English, Japanese and Chinese languages, the highlights mentioned are curated lists covering various topics such as living wellness, academics and awards’ finalists. These lists include relevant titles, which can all be found at Kinokuniya—just be sure to check of its availability. At the very end of the ‘What’s On’ list, you’ll find that ‘Japan Entertainment News’—think Japanese concert and merchandise information as well as Japanese celebrity news—adds a dash of fun amidst all things book-related; after all, Kinokuniya is a Japanese bookstore chain.

Like creating an account, signing up for membership has its perks. The Kinokuniya Privilege Card (KPC) offers 10% off purchases made in-store as well as on its webstore; special discounts on selected items; a monthly e-newsletter subscription; and members-only promotions. That’s not all; you’ll also be eligible for non-Kinokuniya privileges such as discounts at Singapore Dance Theatre, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and more. KPC Memberships are available for a 1-year, 2-year and 3-year subscription respectively.

PURCHASING YOUR FAVOURITE TITLES

Have a title in mind already? Enter it into the search bar and select the title you’d like to purchase. If you’re unsure or simply just looking for something to tickle your fancy, feel free to browse around. Don’t be overwhelmed when you search by keywords and is presented with an endless selection to pick from. Kinokuniya provides filters that span across publication date, author and publisher to help make your search easier. You can also have them sorted by the given options or a higher view count to simplify the process. Alternatively, sort the titles into a list if you’d rather sift through a list than with a grid layout.

The title’s overview page will greet you once you’ve decided on a title—everything you’ll need to know about the book will be available to you here, including its availability status, prices, title’s overview and description. Two prices will be shown on the page: an online price as well as a KPC member price. Take note that online and in-store prices differ and aren’t interchangeable. If you’d like to compare prices and visit a store, the title’s availability in-store—as well as its shelf location—is just a click away. Should the titles you’re looking for not be available both online or in-store, feel free to contact Kinokuniya as they’ll need to check with their suppliers on its availability. Dispatch times will also vary between titles—just be mindful of these and your Kinokuniya experience will be a great one!

If you’re big on reviews, Kinokuniya’s titles all come with a customer review on its webstore. You’ll be able to share your favourite titles via email or on Facebook and Twitter with your friends and loved ones with the share button; if you’re big on lists and not ready to make a purchase just yet, add it to your wishlist. Looking for similar books? Kinokuniya will direct you to its dedicated category. Toggle between other relevant categories shown below the ‘Look For Similar Books’ button for a broader selection of your choice. Otherwise, go through the top sellers of the same category on the side. Either way, you’re sure to find something.

TIP #1: Signing up for an account makes it easier for future purchases—you won’t have to key in your details again

Upon checking out your cart, you’ll realise that you can make payment without having to make an account. Ensure the title and quantity is right before you proceed to checkout. If you’ve a coupon code, simply enter it into the dedicated space before you do so. This will ensure it’s accounted for—wouldn’t want to make the silly mistake of missing out on a discount! Once payment is set and you’ve received a confirmation email from Kinokuniya, you’re pretty much set for your next amazing read.

TIP #2: Gifting someone a book?

With Kinokuniya Webstore, you can request for gift-wrapping and a message card with your personal message printed on. Simply select ‘Gift Option’ and ‘Attach Message Card’ when you’re checking out. And yes, you’ll be able to choose the wrapping paper too!

If you’re unsure on navigating the site or going about certain things on the webstore, Kinokuniya has a dedicated FAQ and Help page, which you can access at the bottom of the site. You can also drop them an enquiry if both pages are unable to help you. Now, you’ll be able to purchase your favourite titles whenever, wherever with Kinokuniya.

Check in with Cardable often as we update this page regularly so you’ll always be in the know of the latest offers at Kinokuniya Webstore and more.
